Home School Space and Science Days

Astronaut Suit

Join home school families from Houston and Galveston at Space Center Houston’s new “Home School Space and Science Days" featuring age-appropriate learning programs and activities. Space Center Houston’s professional educators will guide and assist your students through studies of rocketry, recent NASA discoveries, the planets and solar system and astronaut training. Also, see special guest speaker presentations. Families will find these special days fundamentally educational and very memorable.

Order and pay by September 19th and the price is only $8.95 per person! (a savings of $10.00 off the regular adult admission!) Orders placed on or after September 19th are $10.95 per person. All pay on arrival purchases will be charged $10.95 per person. Pre-registration is required 48 hours in advance.

*Space Center Houston is closed to the general public on both days and attendance is limited. Early registration is recommended.

See the history of manned space flight as only Space Center Houston could tell the story. See real space-flown artifacts in the Starship Gallery, tour NASA on The Discount Tire NASA Tram Tour, test your skill on Landing the Shuttle and see real moon rocks. Home school students will also be able to experience Space Center Houston’s newest fall exhibit adventure; “CIRCUS! Science Under The Big Top.”

The special Home School Space and Science price of $8.95 includes all special classes, group lectures, the Discount Tire NASA Tram Tour, all exhibits, movies and demonstrations. The special price does not include use of special simulators, which will be available for a minimal charge.

To insure the educational curriculum integrity, both events are limited in attendance and require advance registration.

Grades K-2:
Come BLAST OFF and explore our solar system! Students will build their own Space Suit and Helmet as they prepare to blast off on an adventure through our solar system by creating their very own Solar System Necklace.

Grades 3-5:
Solve Problems like a NASA engineer! Rediscover our Space Program and have a chance to touch a real Moon Rock by exploring the Starship Gallery in a Scavenger Hunt. Students will apply Newton's Laws of Motion by protecting an egg-astronaut as well as launching an air rocket to surprising heights.

Grades 6-8:
Explore the World of Robots and Rockets! Learning about the uses of robotics in the space program, students will design and test their own robotic arms. They will take an exciting tour of the Orbiter Mock Up and view "To Be an Astronaut." They will also explore the aerodynamic principles of rocketry by playing a round of rocket golf.

Grades 9-12:
Students will dive head first into the world of NASA engineers! Students will discover the challenges of working within a budget, just like real engineers! They will create and launch Water Bottle Rockets. Communication and team work are stressed as students construct a working robotic rover which will be used to accomplish a mission on the Lunar Surface.
